'We all know that food can sometimes be wonderful. I think it should be wonderful every day'. And this book more than lives up to Hugh's quote. My new favourite cookbook for the autumn term, it is overflowing with a wonderful collection of delicious and accessible recipes. Clear instructions, beautiful pics and useful Hugh intros with the added joy of quirky, witty illustrations. I went straight to the 'treats' (being a girl) and made the lemon trickle cake. Incredibly easy to follow, cooked like a dream, very happy kids! So much so that my son has requested that I make it as his birthday cake. Next on the list the sausage and root veg stew, parsnip and thyme bread and apple and walnut crumble. You can see I am in an autumn state of mind...

A great cook book for every day use - hence the name I guess.
So far have very successfully cooked the Baked Chicken Curry and have had requests for the Chorizo Carbonara and Roast lamb with lemon and apricots.
Nice pictures and easy to follow recipes.

I would love to buy this book and eagerly await further reviews. Over the years I bought enough recipe books to wallpaper my entire house at least twice with their pages. Most of them promised the stars out of the sky and most failed miserably, featuring recipes which needs tons of ingredients you don't normally have around the house or simply are NOT simple everyday recipes ect ect

I just received my signed copy

The book is fab - great recipes that you could and would use everyday. I especially like the clear design, lovely photos, typography and the funny doodles (fig.1 ) and the recipes aren't bad either!

Received my copy today and had a first(much too short) look through it - there was not one recipe which didn't scream 'Try me!' Love the lunchbox ideas!
The photos and illustrations are also great: I do own a lot of cookbooks, but this one will be cherished and in use a lot.

I got my copy the other day too, only had time to have a quick flick through before it got burried under dust sheets, been oppening out fire places and ripping hundred year old plaster off the walls and its been a tad dusty. It wont all get finished this side of Christmas but it is getting clean enough to get things back out, hoping to find time to have as good look through it tomorrow, it looked realy good when I had a quick look through.

Was hoping to see Hugh at Ilkly Literary festival in oct, but my sister in law is doing a kids workshop there the week before, and though I don't need tickets for that as I'm helping I'm buying tickets for everything else and its working out a little expencive, and Hugh's talk for the week after is sold out anyway, Hay-Oh.

At least after shifting the dust around tomorrow I have a nice new book to take my minde off the mess.

Ok, I was sceptic, but after trying a few recipes (roast carrots with orange and cumin are in the oven as I type) I must admit, I like it! The 10min cookies were fantastic and didn't last long! Thank you Hugh, not many authors take into consideration that most people have to supervise homework, brake up fighting kids and have to stop the dog from raiding the bin ect while cooking dinner. Lovely recipes with minimum effort!
Looking forward to the next book!

As an avid collector of cookery books this is fab - love the photos and the illustrations are great fun. Clear instructions and best of all, ingredients that are easily available. I’ve only had time to try out a couple of recipes - lemony courgettes on toast and Bill’s Rona oatcakes – both scrummy. Really looking forward to some quiet time in the kitchen so that I can try out lots more!

    Something for everyone, highly recommended.

Now to be honest, I am probably not the best person to review recipe books or anything connected with cookery, mainly, I suppose, because I often read a recipe, go out into the veg plot, and then get sidetracked with extra ingredients which tempt me into altering the original recipe.

However, River Cottage Everyday is a book which is so stuffed (excuse the pun) with recipes, I reckon I could work my way through the whole book without getting sidetracked. From the breakfast recipes (including Honey baked rhubarb), breads (including Focaccia, which is one bread I have yet to perfect), to Leftover pork with fennel and new potatoes, to Blackcurrant granita, I reckon there must be several thousand combinations of food to try out for different mealtimes. And mealtimes here don’t just mean evening meals shared with friends and family. Looking at page 58, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast seem just the perfect way to start a day, and for those who want a quick snack, don’t bother with those ridiculous energy bars from supermarkets which sap your pocket at the speed of light, just go to page 39 and make a few Honey and peanut butter booster bars.

Reading the book just makes me itch to get into the kitchen and start making a meal. Which is a shame because I only had breakfast a little while ago…

How do I rate the book? In a word, brilliant. This is a book which imparts so much knowledge and enthusiasm it is an absolute classic. The sixth River Cottage book from Hugh should be in every Christmas stocking.

I’m off to the veg plot now to look for ingredients for the Roasted roots with mustard, rosemary, and honey which is on page 318. Something tells me I might just add some butternut squash into the recipe, because I love squash roasted with honey, and I can see a little one out there which is saying please eat me

All humans should be free range and never kept in offices!
