Allotment 2010

How exciting a box of seeds have arrived ready for this year's allotment-ing (is that even a word?)
My aim this year is to not only grow a few more veggies than last year, but to grow with 'compatebility' in mind. Last year we acquired our allotment just a few weeks after most seeds should have been well underway - not discouraged we still managed to eek out a good few veggies and enjoyed them all imensely - especially the beetroot! On reflection we probably over did the whole runner bean thing as family started to turn them away!!! ha!
This year we're much better prepared down the allotment with moe planting areas and a polytunnel (luxury on many levels - not least as a place to go and warm up on cold days!) So we're all set (well almost) and have the box of seeds say waiting for my to plant!
Companion planting is my aim this year and I have read and researched much - often recommendations come with no real scientific support but are tried and tested and look like they work a treat! The problem though is fitting things in in the right place - it is akin to sorting out the seating arrangments at a wedding where the bride's father must not be anywhere near the groom's cousin-twice-removed!!! But finally after a number of evenings spent organising and reorganising plants, herbs and veggies I think I have settled on a master plan. . . . watch this space for how well it works...!!
On the plus side, after manipulating a thousand variations of what can go where I feel better equipment to tackle the rubic cube!!!
